The humorous, exaggerated Klutzes are the artist's most appealing characters yet. Many small photographs of auto parts, household items, interesting faces, and miscellaneous debris are incorporated into the pictures.

The frenetic energy on every page, the rich use of color, and a text that swings throughout on streaks of color are all in his unique style. Their performances are always flawless-'well, almost always.' The art and design of the book are vintage Drescher. They discover, when they are encouraged to take their boots off, that they are quite nimble and become trapeze artists of great renown. The Klutzes have a lucky accident the night Papa hits a circus caravan head-on-the owner recognizes that they are the clown family he has been searching for. Their long skinny legs and arms and their huge striped noses and globelike middles are rubbery, allowing them to bounce when they land.

Oddly enough, they never get seriously hurt. Having been born wearing heavy black workboots, which they never take off, adds to their difficulties. They stumble over or knock down everything in their path, and fall down stairs regularly. PreSchool-Grade 3-It's hard to read the title of this book because the Klutz family (Poppa, Momma, and daughter Louise) have knocked the letters askew.
